Common questions
FAQ
With the clean energy industry moving fast, many people have heard of community solar but have questions about how programs work and how to sign up. Our goal is to help you get the answers you need. If you still have questions, schedule some time with one of our energy specialists.
Is somebody going to put solar panels on my roof?
No. Community solar does not put anything on your roof and does not require any installation at your home.
You subscribe to a share of a larger solar farm that is already connected to your utility's grid. The value of that energy shows up as a credit tied to your existing utility account.
Am I changing energy providers?
No. Your utility stays the same and your electric service stays the same.
Community solar is simply an added credit arrangement connected to your current utility account. You're not switching suppliers, changing wires, or changing how power gets to your home.
How does community solar show up on my bill?
The credit shows up on your existing utility bill. That's the part most people care about: the program is connected to the bill you already pay.
Depending on the program, you may also receive a separate solar statement that shows the credited amount and discounted charge. Across both, the goal is that your total cost is lower than it would have been without the credits.
Why do you need a copy of my utility bill?
Your bill has the exact account information needed to match you with the right utility program and submit enrollment correctly.
It also helps us confirm whether there's an active opening for your utility and service area without sending you back and forth for missing details.
How can I send my bill?
The easiest option is to use our submit-bill form, which works on phones and desktop. You can upload a PDF, attach a photo, paste a screenshot from your clipboard, or drag a file in from your computer.
If that's easier, you can also email your bill to bill@energycreditprogram.com and we'll review it there.
